This new study of funerary monuments in Roman Gaul aims at putting emphasis on the various tools used by the ancient populations to perpetuate the memories of their dead. Thanks to carved images or texts, the mention of the name, of the identity of the deceased and of specific aspects of his everyday life were some of the means used to keep his memory alive in the world of the living. The geographical area chosen corresponds to three ancient territories : thoose of the Aeduens, the Lingons and the Sequans. My doctoral work in the history of medieval art unfolds from a multistep process. Based on the initial finding pertaining to the pervasive use of an iconography of Virtues in the Middle Ages, something specific emerged: its presence in sites of government, as well as its common association with the powerful, be it in the civic or religious spheres. The powerful encompasses here individuals representing various types of government existing during the medieval era in the western world. L'art funéraire de la Lingonie romaine à travers quatre exemples

National audience; Hérités de la période laténienne, les territoires de la Gaule romaine se développent autour d'une capitale de cité. Langres, antique, Andemantunnum, était la capitale de la civitas Lingonum, qui s'étendait sur une grande partie de la Haute-Marne, le sud-est de l'Aube, jusqu'à Dijon et sa périphérie.En territoire lingon, les monuments funéraires appartiennent à plusieurs groupes, et cette typologie nous permet de juger de leur importance, ainsi que du statut social des défunts qui y sont associés. De même, l'iconographie nous donne de précieuses informations quant à la vie des propriétaires de ces monuments.
